Coaches Review - Round 18

ROUND 18 AWAY V AQUINAS

Last game of the season on what looked like a good oval but at the top end it was more like a cow paddock.
We kicked with a fair breeze in the first quarter but had trouble kicking goals. Aquinas was running the ball out of our forward line well and we were not putting enough pressure on their kickers. Ryan with 3 goals and Foxy 2 goals made our quarter look better than it really was. At quarter time it was 5.2 to 2.5.

The first half of the second quarter was even but in the last half Aquinas’s run got on top of us. While on ballers Barra and Robes were trying hard too many players were not “maning up” when they had the ball. Simple football boys. At quarters end it was 3.0 to 7.3 with us 2 goals down at half time.

In the third we came out fighting but could not throw Aquinas off our backs. Matt L. had a good quarter with 2 goals but once again it was too few doing to much and the rest of the team becoming “watchers”. While we had regained the lead by 1 goal at quarters end 5.3 to 2.3 they had the breeze in the last.

Our “pressure” and “workrate” had been down all game but it lifted at the start of the last quarter with a goal to Foxy giving us a 2 goal lead. For the first time in many weeks our back line was struggling but at the same time they were busting there arse trying to stop Aquinas. A little help from our centre line and on ball players would have made there job a bit easier. We have to remember “one in all in” is the way to play team footy. At quarters end it was 2.1 to 5.11 with Aquinas running out 4 goal winners.

While disappointing to lose the last game we have finished 2nd on the ladder which is a very good result for the club.

Our first final is against Richmond Central at St. Bernards in West Essendon on Sunday.
We want as many players, past players, family and friends to get to the game and give us support. Meet up behind the social club end goals and mark that us our home patch off the ground to stop the “UGLY” Richmond Central Reserves players and supporters from abusing OUR PLAYERS and OUR CLUB.

Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Sunday
